The lecture gives an introduction into Vertebrate Taphonomy with special emphasis on palaeontological and archaeological sites. History of investigation, prerequisites of preservation of vertebrate remains, types of fossil vertebrate sites and taphonomic agents and processes will be discussed. Methods applied in taphonomic studies are explained on behalf of well investigated sites. In the exercise part bone modifications are explained, determined and analysed. The aim of the lecture is to give a precise overview concerning processes and agents as well as their possible influences on fossil vertebrate sites.
