Aims, contents and method of the course
This 3 hour lecture courses introduces students to important and pertinent concepts in ecology. Topics covered may vary between successive semesters. Each concept is introduced in a one hour lecture and the students are provided with key papers in the respective field which they are required to read over the weekend. During a two hour lecture a guest speaker working in this field presents actual examples from her/his research and participates in a discussion of the presentation and. the reading material. Topics covered included geophysiology, biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, microbial loop, ecosystem engineers, symbiosis, life histories, ecosystem evolution, landscape ecology and ecological footprint.Language: German and English
