Groundwater hydrology deals with the occurrence, movement, and quality of water beneath the earth surface. In the same way as in the first semester, when the focus was on the unconsolidated sediments, we finally discuss the fissure permeability of rocks especially in karst regions. The methods of exploration, in particular tracer experiments and isotope studies are presented. The most important example is the water supply of the city of Vienna with water from the sources of the calcareous Alps.
A short overview about the different geophysical methods is presented. As a result we see the advantages and limits of the different methods for hydrogeological questions.
How can underground water be protected and best utilized for the benefit of people?
