Statistical physics applied to solids consisting of more than one type of atom and containing defects. The focus is on atom configuration (ordering, segregation), models for the equilibrium state of solid solutions, and the mechanisms of atom kinetics.
Some of the topics treated: Probabilites, statistical ensembles, quantum statistics, order-disorder transitions, the Ising model, Bragg-Williams approximation, higher-order approximations, cluster variation method, jump processes, kinetic Monte Carlo simulations
