This field course and seminar introduces in the basic aspects of the carbon cycle in alpine ecosystems. Alpine regions are especially vulnerable to climate change (warming and precipitation), and are therefore a potential source of CO2 to the atmosphere. Whole ecosystem gas exchange pattern will be measured and in-vitro experiments are conducted in order to elucidate controls on heterotrophic respiration.
