Finding contaminated sites by earth science methods are described in this lecture: Direct methods (drillings and sampling of soil) are described combined with geophysical methods, which give an overview and are a non destructive method of investigation. In the lecture the Austrian legal situation is discussed, direct- and geophysical methods for the investigation are evaluated. Examples are given for readjustment and safety precautions of the environment, to avoid the danger of the contamination of drinking water. Monitoring of contaminations ("Altlasten") is necessary.
