Main objective of the exercise lecture is to get insight and practical knowledge in applied hydrogeology. It comprises mobile hydrochemistry, basics of hydraulics (Darcy equation; pumping test), examples for calculation of permeability (Hazen, Baier & Bialas), geologic mapping and presentation of hydrogeological maps of projects and diploma thesis in Austria and abroad. Furthermore the use of hydrogeological models, of geophysical and aero-geophysical methods, and of discharge measurements is presented. As dowsing is still widely used today, even by offices, a short introduction is given to this "method" and its history.
Relation between theory and practical exercises of 12 lecture units is 50:50. Optionally, a 2 days excursion highlights hydrogeological projects of a civil engineering bureau for hydrogeology, and of the hydrogeology department of a provincial governmental. The practical use of equipment of the hydrogeological laboratory is tested in the field, where hydrogeological projects were completed by the lecturer in Austria.
Lecture is good for 1.4 ECTS points for exercise unit. Additional 2.8 ECTS points are offered for 2 days hydrogeological excursion. Certificate results from practical exercises and final oral examination. Script is available for students.
