Course focuses on the elucidation of possible characters primarily in morphology and phytochemistry and their correct interpretation in systematics and phylogeny. The method of comparitive analytical data studies, being independant of the nature of the character, is central to this course. Futher information included: general character studies, cultural and horticultural background, brief introductions to the use of libary and internet information, presentation of scientific data. The characters studied in the course are compiled and discussed by the students. Ecological (e.g. phytoalexin production, cultivation conditions) and other applied aspects (e.g. phytomedicine) are briefly addressed, so much as to give basic information for futher discussion of these topics during the PP-seminar in the following semester.
