Aims, contents and method of the course

ECTS Points: 4.5
The training course is given in the experimental garden Augarten, where an intensive training is offered to study horticultural techniques together with experiments to elucidate the physiological background. Focal points are: germination / allelopathy, grafting (auto-, homo-, heterograft, transplantation), rooting of cuttings (as influenced by storage compounds, light, temperature, nutrients and phytohormones like IEA, IBA and NAA), regeneration from plant organs( complete, partial), apical dominance / bud formation, vegetative / generative growth, effects of phyto - hormones / phyto - effectors (e.g. auxines, morphactine, gibberellinic acid, CCC), soil characteristics ( structure, ion-adsorption, pH, nutrient content, field methods), fertilisation trials (indoor plants, field crops), foil greenhouse (tunnel) / climate, vegetable garden (intercropping - chronological / spatial), cultivation of indoor plants (in relation to the natural habitat), air condition by plants, bottle garden (Wardian cages), growth analysis, plants of the season, excursions to ecologically beneficial farms, crop diversity, winegrowing, food industry. The course is aimed at second level students before they are starting their diploma thesis in botany (plant physiology, eco-physiology, applied plant physiology).
