Basic aspects of the structure and differentiation of the Central European plant cover are presented on both levels of biodiversity, viz. the species as well as the community level. General rules as well as concrete traits of composition, spatial differentiation, conditioning factors including human impact, and geohistorical development are demonstrated and discussed, and basic conceptual notions of biogeography are explained. Though the lecture series may also be visited independently, it is primarily conceived as the theoretical counterpart to "Botanical Excursions"; it is therefore recommended to take both courses simultaneously.
