Objectives: information on the main Central European habitat and landscape types including deciduous and coniferous woods, grasslands and meadows, standing and running waters as well as national parks.
Didactic methods: field work (one habitat type per day) in small working groups of 5-10 students lead by a multidisiciplinary staff. We provide information on taxonomy, sampling and identification techniques of plants and animals, chemistry, climatology, soil science as well as geology. In the evening, the most importamnt results of the day are presented by students (talks, films, exhibitions etc.). In addition, students have the possibility for active and interdisciplinary discussions. Individual protocols by additional use recommended papers are the base for evaluation of the participants.
Contents: Different wood types, meadows, standing and running waters (fish ponds, Fugnitz river) in the surroundings of the filed station of Riegersburg (Lower Austria); National Park Thayatal.
