After an introduction to the phylogeography and holocene history of European mammals systematics and taxa down to the generic level should be presented. Terrestrial species, especially from the alpine region will be treated in detail and their natural history and population ecology is the main object of the lecture. Moreover, recent results from the literature should be dealt with as illustrations for research in mammology. Habitats, competition and predator-prey relationships within their mammalian community, as well as conservational needs will also be considered. Domestication and naturalized mammals should represent further applied aspects of the topic.
