Several imaging methods are used for medical diagnosis. The most important are conventional x-ray, computed tomography, magnetic resonance tomography and ultrasound. Some of these techniques can be successfully applied by biologists, from the determination of morphological structures to measurements of metabolites. Imaging systems and their underlying physical priniciples are explained. The aim is to answer the question: What can I measure with which technique? The second part of the lecture deals with imaging analysis. Basics of segmentation, visualization and quantitative analysis are explained.
