Aims, contents and method of the course

ECTS-points: 3,0
The lecture starts with a short introduction of immunology with particular regard to the MHC. Subsequently the development of the immune system in the evolution of vertebrates is explained. Particularly origin, function, genetics and polymorphism of the human MHC (the HLA system) are elaborated. Finally the importance of the diversity of different HLA alleles in different ethnic groups for the anthropologic research is discussed.
