Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

In this lecture themes belonging to finance mathematics should be discussed. Although this topic loses its relevant position in the draft
of the new regulations for secondary schools ("Gymnasien") compared with the old one, it is a nice and modern contribution to applied mathematics which can be treated also in school. We will study the classical calculation of
interest, annuity-problems, basics of actuarial theory and the question of valueing options (the binomial model prepares the understanding of the Black-Scholes model --- only in principle, of course).

Assessment and permitted materials

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The adequate preparation of this not in mathematical but in conceptual respect difficult matter is the main goal of this seminar. The mathematical model in the background should be enligthened in every special
case. Therefore it is important to translate the treated situation in the language of mathematics. After the calculations based on the mathematical model it is necessary to interpret the given results. Last but not least the user must review if the mathematical solution fits to the original problem or not.
