Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims: Introduction to European and International Trademark Law
Contents: This lecture covers the main principles of trademark law from a practical perspective. Following a general introduction about trademark from the legal perspective, we take a look on the conditions for protection of a sign as a trademark respectively the grounds for refusal of protection. The following section deals with the various ways to obtain trademark registrations on a national, EU and international level, including a description of the bases for unregistered trademark protection. The final section explains the protection conferred by trademarks and its enforcement.
