Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

How can I find and access literature about a research topic? How can I find out what literature has been published? How can I stay up to date about publications in my field? What effective research strategies can I apply?

Workshop participants will be enabled to find answers to these questions through a mixture of instruction, active learning and the collaborative exploration of issues.

Workshop topics include navigating the relevant information infrastructure of Vienna University Library and beyond, search strategies for search engines, databases, e-journals and e-book platforms, and applying search and information management strategies (Boolean Operators, truncation, thesaurus, index, linking services, keyword and subject terms, citation searches) to selected tools.

After this 2-hourworkshop, participants will have the foundational knowledge necessary to carry out literature research for their PhD projects.

Individual follow-up sessions for feed-back and individual tuition are available on request until the end of term.
