Aims, contents and method of the course

Day 1: Preparing a draft and scientific language:
Introduction
- Writer's block and its resolution (imagining technique)
- basic conditions of doctoral thesis projects

Preparing scientific contributions and models of scientific working
- phase model of scientific working (planning, reading, taking excerpts, writing; including outline/concept; directory/structure)
- practical exercises in preparing a draft working on individual topics

Scientific writing, etc.
- What are the distinguishing marks of a scientific text (dispassion and objectivity …)
- Adequate terminology of qualification
- Correct gender language
- Cardinal errors

Day 2: Scientific writing:
Analyses and writing scientific texts working on individual topics, etc.
- text analysis and new wording
- defining elements of an introduction
- formulating an abstract
- writing the first sentence
- Paraphrasing an original quotation
- setting up a dialogue
Scientific tools
- Formal elements
- Quotations, use of sources etc.
Presentation of the results
Preparation, carrying out and postprocessing a presentation using presentation techniques

Day 3: Scientific coaching concerning text and preparation questions for individual doctoral candidates. After the first two days the course instructor will be available for individual questions concerning your text, your preparation of a draft for your doctoral thesis between 9 am and 6 pm. Please, arrange an hour.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Consolidation and fortification of the individual's competence in preparing a draft, writing and presentation. Finding a personal style while maintaining general scientific quality.

Examination topics

- Cognitive science coaching using imagining techniques.
- Introduction through the trainer.
- Discussions in small groups as well as planery discussions.
- Concrete excercises in preparing a draft and writing.
- Investigating into participants' individual questions.
- Presentation of structural assistance and supporting techniques.
