Aims, contents and method of the course

Research Data Management (RDM) is a set of practices that helps researchers organize, structure, store and share data during and after the research project.

The course will give an introduction to various aspects of Research Data Management relevant for the final phase of the dissertation project, such as:
- Research data lifecycle
- Data archives and repositories
- Metadata and documentation
- Data availability statements
- Publishing in data journals
- Research data management services and tools of the University of Vienna

The PhD students will learn helpful tips on preserving research data from their dissertation projects long-term, making them available for reuse and gaining visibility for their research by publishing the underlying data. The course will introduce tools and services for Research Data Management offered at the University of Vienna.

Students can sign up for the complementary workshop 'Research Data Management for PhD Students: Introduction to Data Planning, Collection and Analysis' to learn helpful tips on how to organize, document, store and share research data during the dissertation project.
