Examination topics

Slides of the lecture and Chapters 1-17 of Abraham Silberschatz, Peter B. Galvin, Greg Gagne, Operating System Concepts (English) 9th edition, 2012. Only those parts will be required that are mentioned and explained in the lecture. Moreover selected extra material, which will be provided in the Moodle.

The exam questions will be in both languages (German and English) and can also be answered in both languages.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam at the end of the course, multiple choice and free text.
Grading:
>88%: Very good (1)
87-­‐75%: Good (2)
74-­‐63%: Satisfactory (3)
62-­‐50%: Sufficient (4)
< 50%: Not sufficient (5)

It will be possible to obtain bonus points (at most 10%) via a project. Details will be provided in the lecture.
- the final number of points will be calculated by adding bonus and exam points (e.g., 10%+41%=51%, 6%+60%=66% etc.)
- 100% of the grade can also be reached without bonus points, via the exam

Extra information for the online exam (added May 04, 2020):

The test will be conducted via Moodle (online) and will contain multiple-choice questions and free text questions. The duration of the exam will be 90 minutes. The questions will be in both English and German, and you can answer in both English and German.

You may use any material that was provided/referenced by us and your own notes. However, any material that you copy over directly (i.e., not using your own words) during the exam must be referenced. If you prepare your own material, you must use your own words, as the exam will be checked by Turnitin.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Study of computer science or media informatics

In accordance with the guidelines of the University of Vienna this course will be held in English. Therefore knowledge at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is recommended.
