This course offers an introduction to the basics of the historiography of global history. It starts with an overview of the genesis/development/emergence of global history and continues with special guest lecturers who will offer – always with their specific approaches to the field of ‘global history’ – insights into major time periods and world regions. The course also offers insights into theoretical debates in global history. It introduces the participants into concepts of universal history, theories of imperialism, world-system analysis, gender, Marxism, memory and life stories as well as to recent debates on post-colonialism and Eurocentrism.
