Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
It is the aim of this lecture course to provide a survey of the major styles of Shakespearean adaptations (re-workings, transformations etc.) for the big screen. Thus, we will look at, and compare, the work of famous directors and their styles (Laurence Olivier, Orson Welles, Peter Brook, Franco Zeffirelli, Kenneth Branagh, Baz Luhrmann etc.) -- all the way from 'Silent Shakespeare'; to such beauties as 'She's the Man' (variation on 'Twelfth Night'), 'Ten Things I Hate about You' ('Taming of the Shrew') and 'Romeo and Juliet vs. the Living Dead'.
