Examination topics
Multi-media based teaching (PPT, internet, audio and/or video presentations of songs, plays and films) combined with interactive teaching, and the use of the e-learning platform (Moodle).
Assessment and permitted materials
Requirements: The final (written) exam will test the students' ability to interpret some of the texts on the reading list, detailed and in-depth knowledge of the subject matter presented in the 13 lecture units; the final exam (no multiple choice questionnaire!!!) consists of a short creative essay, a set of specific questions on authors, works, theories, background, terminology etc., and at least one interpretation of a poem or a passage from a play. (An example of a final exam questionnaire will be uploaded to the e-learning platform in March).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Aims: Introducing first-and second-year students of English into the political, cultural and literary history of the English Renaissance and early Neoclassical Age; advancing students' skills in interpreting poems, plays and prose works within the given cultural and religious contexts; introducing students to the distinctive features of different styles of writing, theories of drama and poetry, as well as familiarizing them with the Elizabethan mindset, world-view and gender roles; advancing students' cross-cultural understanding.
