Examination topics
Content of the lecture and the basic literature provided on moodle for the respective units.
Assessment and permitted materials
The exam consists of two parts:
1. submission of a written summary of a research article from the basic literature (2-3 pages, Times New Roman 12 pt, 1.5 lines). Submission on the date of the written examination.
2. a written exam in which you can choose two out of a total of five questions (groups) on aspects of the literary history of West Africa covered in the lecture.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Independent reading of the course literature is expected; ability to discuss the literary texts covered in the context of cultural debates and approaches to literary criticism in/about West Africa. Knowledge of English is required, as some of the course literature is in English. Knowledge of French is an advantage.
