Primary goal: Language contact as one of the main factors of language change and language evolution will be presented, with special regard to ist effects on all levels of linguistic structure, above all the lexicon. Regional surveys will outline the relevance of contact linguistics to the methodology of historical linguistics.
Secondary goals:
Cultural, social and political scenarios as a trigger of language contact
Multiethnicity and plurilingualism
Language contact and areal typology
Anachronic transfer (learned vocabulary and vocabulary of languages for special purposes)
Language mixing (Pidgin and Creole languages)
