Examination topics
The exam will be on the content of the lectures as well as the literature
Assessment and permitted materials
The assessment has two components. On the one hand, students will write two short comments (three pages/5000 characters including spaces) on two texts they chose from the literature list. These comments have to be handed in UNTIL FRIDAY 23:59 BEFORE THE RESPECTIVE LECTURE to which the text associated. This has the purpose, that questions posed in the comments will be discussed in the lecture.Furthermore after the completion of the lecture an exam will take place. It consists of to questions which are independent of each other. This exam is intended as oral exam. If, however, the further development of the current pandemic makes such an arrangement unsafe, the exam will take the form of a written paper on the to questions. The paper will have an extent of about 12.000 characters including spaces and has to be handed in within a fixed deadline. All oral and written contributions by students can be in either German or English, as the respective student prefers.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Assessment criteriaThe comments are evaluated along the following criteria:
- Has the content of the text under discussion been understood correctly?
- Has the hypothesis of the text, its aim and the line of argumentation been understood correctly?
- Has a well-founded criticism or a question for further discussion been developed? The final exam is evaluated along completeness and correctness of the answers. Furthermore the student is expected to develop her/his own thoughts on the topic. Both components of the assessment (written comments, final exam) contribute with 50% to the grade. Both components have to be graded positiv for a positive completion of the course.Minimal requirements:If less than two comments are handed in within the respective deadline, the grade is negative. In case the final exam takes place in form of a written assignment, it has to be delivered within the deadline - otherwise the grade is negative. All written partial performances have to follow the rules of good scientific practice. By registering to the course or by handing in a written partial performance, the students tacitly agree, that their written contributions may be checked for plagiarism by electronic means (turnitin).
