Information

Examination topics

Black board lectures. The students should make notes. It is planned to provide hand written lecture notes.

Assessment and permitted materials

To obtain the lecture certificate you need to participate and arrange for an oral exam after the lecture period.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In applications of quantum field theory to problems with strong hierarchies of momentum scales one can use a generalized form of the well known Taylor expansion. Its field theoretic form is called the method of effective field theories. In many cases theoretical predictions can only be made in the framework of such effective theories. In the lectures the basic elements of effective field theories and their computational methods will be discussed. An introduction to a number of effective field theories is given that are used in current front line research in elementary particle collider physics (relevant e.g. for the LHC).
