Examiners

Information

Examination topics

Definitions and concepts of experimental physics as explained in the lecture. Solving of problems similar to those discussed in the trainings course.

Assessment and permitted materials

Performance test: Written exam, 2 hours, Language: German
Single choice questions, open questions and problem solving
Use of a mathematics formulary and a pocket calculator is permitted.

If written exams are not possible on site due to the corona crisis, digital oral exams will be offered using the JITSI video tool. Permitted tools for the oral exam: pen and a blank sheet of paper; Calculator and formulary are not required. There are 6 question areas with a maximum of 10 points each. There are no calculation examples that can be fully calculated, only the approach or qualitative solution strategies for simple calculation tasks are asked.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Knowledge of fundamentals and methods of classical experimental physics, comprehensive understanding of central results and of the necessary mathematical formalism; to be able to apply the mathematical formalism to basic physical concepts.
Out of 60 achievable points, at least 30.5 points are necessary for a positve grade.

Even with the oral examination using the JITSI video tool, at least 30.5 points out of the 60 points have to be achieved for a positive grade.

Grading key:
For a positive test result, more than half of the maximum 60 points are required.
53.0 to 60.0 points: very good
45.5 to 52.5 points: good
38.0 to 45.0 points: satisfactory
30.5 to 37.5 points: sufficient
0 to 30.0 points: not sufficient

Bonus points: On the basis of voluntary participation in reading quizzes (tick tests) and arithmetic exercises, a maximum of 5 bonus points can be earned, which are added to the points achieved in the exam and can lead to an improvement in the grade (e.g. 44.5 points on the exam and 1.5 bonus points gives 46 points, which improves the grade from "satisfactory" to "good".) In order to be able to improve a negative assessment to "sufficient" with bonus points, at least 47.5% of the possible number of points, that is 28.5 points can be achieved. The bonus points achieved will be announced in Moodle at the end of the semester.
