Derzeit werden am Institut für Soziologie folgende Forschungsspezialisierungen angeboten:
- Sozialstruktur, Integration, Migration, Stadtforschung
- Familie, Generationen, Lebenslauf
- Arbeit, Organisation, Gesundheit
- Kultur und Gesellschaft
- Visuelle Soziologie

Darüber hinaus bietet das Institut für Wissenschaftsforschung bestimmte Lehrveranstaltungen des Masterstudiengangs Science-Technology-Society als Forschungsspezialisierung Wissenschaftsforschung für Studierende des Masterstudiums Soziologie an.

Es wird empfohlen, eine Forschungsspezialisierung zu wählen, wobei Lehrveranstaltungen aus dem gesamten Bereich der Forschungsspezialisierungen gewählt werden können, sofern dies mit
dem/der BetreuerIn der Masterarbeit abgestimmt ist.
