Information

Ziele, Inhalte und Methode der Lehrveranstaltung

This course is part of the module "Organization and Personnel II." The course introduces students to the world of Market Design, for which 4 Noble Prizes were given (2020, 2012, 2007, 1996). The course will consist of the theoretical part where we will analytically discuss the models and the applications part where we will see how the how theory is translated into practical solutions to real-world problems. In particular, we will discuss how results from auction theory, matching theory, mechanism design lead us to the use of spectrum auctions, internet ad auctions, kidney exchange programs, school assignment, and course allocation.

Attendance:
Given the limited number of available places, it is strongly recommended to attend the first introductory meeting, otherwise vacant places will be fulfilled.

Art der Leistungskontrolle und erlaubte Hilfsmittel

The assessment will be based on two written exams: Midterm and Final.
The grade will be given based on the total score which is a sum of the scores for the Midterm and the Final.
The students can use one handwritten double-sided A4 sheet with notes and a calculator during both exams.
The attendance is obligatory. However, a reasonable number of missing classes is allowed.

Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab

The grade should be based on the following scale:
1: 80%-100%
2: 70%-79%
3: 60-69%
4: 50-59%
5: 0-49%

Prüfungsstoff

Both exams will be based on material studied at class. The Midterm covers material up to the Midterm date. The Final exam covers material after Midterm date.
