Aims, contents and method of the course

Aufbauend auf den technischen Grundlagen moderner Kommunikationsnetzwerke, die den Studierenden in der Vorlesung "Netzwerktechnologien" bereits einführend vermittelt worden sind, behandelt die Vorlesung "Netzwerktechnologie für Multimedia-Anwendungen" detailliert Themen, die eng mit der digitalen Verarbeitung und Übertragung von Inhalten in Echtzeit zusammenhängen, wie z.B. Audio- und Videokompression, Streaming von Audio- und Videoinhalten oder die Dienstgüte in IP-basierten Netzwerken. Dabei werden die Grundlagen der Netzwerktechnologien vertieft mit einem Fokus auf weithin verbreitete kabellose Übertragungstechnologien - vor allem WLAN. Mit dem Ziel eines umfassenden Verständnisses dieser komplexen Thematik wird dabei die gesamte Kette von der Produktion der digitalen Inhalte, über deren Transport durch heterogene Netze bis hin zum Konsumenten/Endbenutzer betrachtet, und zwar sowohl aus einer streng technischen Sicht als auch aus einer sozio-ökonomischen und perzeptiven Sicht.

Schriftliche Prüfung am Ende der Lehrveranstaltung (Freitext- und optional bis zu 50% Multiple-Choice-Fragen)
Keine Unterlagen erlaubt (closed book).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Vorkenntnisse in Netzwerktechnologien;
Beurteilungsmaßstab/Notenschlüssel für E=Prozentzahl der erreichten Maximalleistung:
E < 50 ==> nicht genügend
50 <= E < 60 ==> genügend
60 <= E < 75 ==> befriedigend
75 <= E < 85 ==> gut
E >= 85 ==> sehr gut
