Aims, contents and method of the course

The proseminar deals with the history of prostitution/sex work, presenting a historical deepening from a transregional perspective. Beyond spatial containers (prostitution in Vienna, sex work in France, etc.), the historical conceptions of harlotry, prostitution, sex work and the practices of spatial construction will be discussed: Acquisition organization and urban space control (brothels, streets, neighborhoods), transnational acquisition biographies (girl trafficking debate and colonialism), protest organization, self-help and empowerment in trans-epochal and trans-regional meanings, international legislations.
