Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the methods workshop is to gain insight into the discussion of a research-relevant field of theory and methods and to develop the ability to understand theoretical texts and to be able to reproduce their argumentation structure.
Since the critique of large-scale concepts of modernization theory, space has been given to actors of the most diverse hues in historical and cultural studies. Actor-centered" research is supposed to integrate less privileged groups - from the working class to women to the colonized - into historiography. In recent decades, thought has been given to the "agency" of non-human actors and actants, of animals, things, and matter. The exercise will introduce approaches that deal with actors*, their possibilities and modes of action, and the question of their efficacy. We will start with everyday and micro history and deal with the agency concept of gender studies as well as the actor-network theory of Bruno Latour and others. For this purpose we will discuss theoretical texts and historiographical examples.
- Intensive text discussion
- Discussion of your own excerpt drafts
