Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This is an interactive seminar-type course for students embarking on, or already working on, their linguistic MA thesis or Diplomarbeit. The seminar will give participants the opportunity to discuss not only the progress of their own work but also issues arising from it of a more general theoretical or practical interest. The aim of the course is twofold: first, to get to know and discuss the projects of fellow students and second, to consolidate the research skills necessary for an extended research report. The seminar also provides an opportunity for networking and mutual support among students at this (potentially more 'lonely') stage of their studies.Course components include introductory sessions, project presentations/presentations of work in progress, all-class discussions of projects/work in progress, reading and feedback assignments, final reflective essay & discussion.Students studying for 'Lehramt' (UF Englisch) and working on their Diplomarbeit are very welcome to attend the course - you do not need credit for it but you are likely to find it very useful in this phase of your studies, which may feel a little lonely.
Assessment and permitted materials
Participants will collaborate in the close and critical examination of ideas about language and language study. Giving and receiving feedback and support for thesis work is the main focus of this course.
