Aims, contents and method of the course

Survey of the development of forms of dominion, administration and resource extraction on part of the state; selected texts will be read and discussed in class on the basis of the pertinent secondary literature

Assessment and permitted materials

texts have to be prepared, presentations are to be given; a paper is to be written

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimal requirements for receving a pass grade: active participation in class (preparation of the texts to be read, participation in the discussions); oral presentation on a given topic and preparation of a seminar paper (including reaction on feedback) in accordance with the indications given by the teacher of teh course and in accordance with the rules of best scientific practice. Participation is mandatory, three classes can be missed. Every single contribution is evaluated separately. The seminar paper (and, if required, the reaction on feedback) contributes to the final grade by 50%, the oral presentation contributes 20% and regular participation in class, 30%.
