Aims, contents and method of the course

Lecture course on selected topics of social, cultural and intellectual history of the Near East from pre-Islamic times to the present:
society and family structure;
society and state;
religion and society;
economy and society;
worldview and astrology/-nomy;
medicine and philosophy;
Late Antiquity and Islam.

Assessment and permitted materials

written exam at the end of the semester;
the exam consists of 10 questions that have to be answered alone, without help or resources in complete sentences on a quarter to half a page each.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

in order to pass, more than 50% of the maximal score have to be reached; further grading according to intervalls of 12,5%
