Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The seminar will look at bird breeding in the context of the Late Babylonian Eanna archive. We will go through the pertinent dossier or (partly unpublished and generally unedited) cuneiform texts. Students will receive an introduction into Late Babylonian administration, and the seminar will illustrate the separate steps leading from the identification of an administrative file or dossier to its full edition.

Assessment and permitted materials

Students are expected to prepare translations and commentaries for the primary texts, read assigned secondary literature every week, and participate in each class session. 2 unexcused absences are permitted. All students must give an oral presentation (15-20 minutes) on a relevant topic of their choosing. For students completing their BA within this course and for MA students, a thesis or seminar paper is required. Details will be discussed in class.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In order to receive a passing grade for this course, students are expected to: participate actively in primary text reading and discussions; give an oral presentation on a given topic; write a final paper (BA thesis and MA only). Participation is mandatory and students are allowed three absences. All requirements must be completed in accordance with best scientific practices and the instructors' directions.

Examination topics

Active participation in class and short presentations.
