Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Goals: This course should support the networking between students and gives room for discussion of topical concerns.
This course is part of the faculty's action plan for women and work. The goal of this plan is to counteract gender segregation in academic studies and research. The long term goal is to raise the quota of women in the Bachelor als well as Master and PhD studies.

Topics:
Scientific gender studies and scientific studies on equal opportunities for women in science; diversity and equal opportunity in the learning process; classical gender stereotypes in physics; realistic role models and various job opportunities for female physicists; the Imposter syndrome; carreer plan and work-life-balance; how to establish a mentor relationship; "me too" - ressources in case of sexual harassment and mobbing.

Methods:
„Flipped Classroom“ concept, i.e., the students have to prepare themselves before the class by the means of homework assignments. Their results/insights will be discussed in the class.

Assessment and permitted materials

Course with immanent character; Thus three items of work will be graded:
active participation (counts 30% of the final grade)
homeworks (counts 30% of the final grade)
Final project (team work, counts 40% of the final grade)

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

To achieve a positive final grade, 50% of each item of work is required.
