Contents: The SE 270317-1 will provide an overview on Chemical Law and Safety. Based on an introduction into legal requirements and guidelines applicable for chemicals the students will have the possibility to read, understand and apply regulatory requirements and to start collecting knowledge tailored into basic concepts of (chemical)risk assessment or risk evaluation required by authorities. In addition, the students can discuss risk mitigation concepts and actively work on an actual problematic in the field. Particular emphasis will be given to modern challenges and to substances of concern which are currently evaluated by regulatory authorities at national and international level.
Method: the course will be divided in different sections. Initial theoretical background on regulatory requirements and overview of available guidelines and risk assessment methods will be provided by the teachers. The preparation of seminar work will consist in 3 parts (identified as PART1, PART 2 and PART3). In PART1 and PART2 independent work is required (written). PART3 will take place in group (oral presentations and questions).
