Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
Students will have in-depth knowledge about processes and mechanisms of environmental (hydro)chemistry and geochemistry that play a central role in environmental systems. Students know methods of analytical chemistry used in environmental chemistry and will get training in the laboratory.
Assessment and permitted materials
A maximum number of 145 points can be awarded to students participating in exams, exercises, and a laboratory course.A) Four Short Exams (total of 60 points):
Short exams (45 minutes) are held during the semester, each worth 15 points. The exam dates are
1. exam: October 25 (Hofmann/vd Kammer); 2. exam: November 15 (Krämer); 3. exam November 30 (Hüffer/Zumstein); 4. exam December 11 (Stohl).B) Exercises (total of 45 points):
3 blocks (a. Hofmann/vdKammer; b. Krämer; c. Hüffer/Zumstein), each 15 points. Further details will be announced via Moodle.Laboratory (40 points)
The laboratory course will consist of six basic experiments in environmental chemistry (6 points each) and introductory/safety sessions (4 points). The laboratory course will be held from December 13 until January 29. Participation in all parts of the laboratory course is mandatory to finish this course successfully.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
A total of 145 points can be reached by successful participation of the exams, exercises, and the laboratory course. The points from all these activities are accumulated an the grade is applied to the total number of points reached during the semester. The following grading scheme will be applied:
% - Grade
> 87.5 - 1
75-87.49 - 2
62.5-74.99 - 3
50-62.49 - 4
0-49.99 - 5
At least 50 % of the total points (i.e. 72.5 points) need to be accumulated to pass. However, keep in mind that attending all parts of the laboratory course is mandatory to pass this course.
