Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course offers broader overview of basics of plant developmental biology from evolutionary perspective. Genetic, cytological and evolutionary aspects of mitotic and meiotic cell divisions as well as haplontic and diplointic life cycles will be introduced. Following several lectures will focus on principles, patterns, evolution and genetic regulation of cell cycles of algal lineages, bryophytes, ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms. Specifically, development of various organs across the green plants (among others, roots, flowers, seeds/spores etc.) will be discussed in evolutionary context. Types and genetic bases of asexual reproduction will be presented. The course will also introduce principles of cell and tissue culture, focusing on regeneration and in vitro organogenesis.
Assessment and permitted materials
