Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The courses offered by the Faculty Center of Botany (5 days) survey the organismic diversity, ranging from algae, fungi, mosses and ferns to Angiosperms. Selected model organisms are experienced and analyzed by the students. Morphology and functional aspects of vegetative and generative organs of Angiosperms are central focuses. Plant biodiversity and its research aspects are further addressed during the guided tour through the Botanical Garden of the University of Vienna.
Teaching-and learning objectives are plant physiological and anatomical methods of plant biology in theory and practice. The far spectrum at typical objects may be introduced to a different behaviour pattern by plants under environmental and physiological conditions.
Various structural plans and functions of the plants are starting with plant reactions to various environmental parameters on a cellular level, introduced with an ascending hierarchy.
Main emphasis cell biology: Water balance of the plant cell; Main emphasis anatomy: Structural plan and function of plants; Main emphasis ecology: Special methodology of outdoor ecology; Plant in the system soil-air; Water balance and metabolism physiology of herbaceous plants; hydrological aspects of typical flood plains waters; Vegetation aspects of typical flood plains - ecosystems.
