Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course involves introducing students to Chromosome research, techniques such as DNA Sequencing, Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphism (AFLP) as well as introduction to phylogenetic and population analyses using different computer programes. Students will get a chance to work on these programes and get acquainted.
Assessment and permitted materials
Students planning their own project using the methods used in this practicals. Those students who have no projects will be given a project related to course leaders research interest. Students will give a presentation of their projects (80%) and oral examination (20%).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Learning molecular techniques inclusive of chromosome counts, and computer programes for phylogenetic and population analyses.
Examination topics
Chromosome counts, DNA Sequencing, Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphisms (AFLP) as well as analytical methods using computer softwares at phylogenetic and population levels.
Reading list
