Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This practical offers an introduction to key molecular and genetic tools in ecology and evolution, such as DNA sequencing including NGS, widely used PCR-based genetic markers, as well as cytogenetic, phylogenetic and population genetic analysis methods using different computer programs. Students will get a chance to work hands-on with these tools and programs, and to practice interpretation of results.

Assessment and permitted materials

Active participation in the practical 5 points, 4 short tests and 1 homework together 15 points, thus totalling 20 points.
Credit key: <10 points: 5; 10-11.9 points: 4; 12-14.9 points: 3; 15-17.9 points 2; 18-20 points: 1.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Ability to understand and use essential molecular and cytogenetic techniques including computer programs for cytogenetic, phylogenetic and population genetic analyses.
Credit key: <10 points: 5; 10-11.9 points: 4; 12-14.9 points: 3; 15-17.9 points 2; 18-20 points: 1.
