This course serves as the Bachelor thesis internship in individual research labs. PLEASE IGNORE THE LIST OF LECTURERS above; check the link below about finding participating labs. Practical part of the Bachelor thesis project can be carried out in ANY molecular biology-related research labs of your choice at the institutes of campus Vienna Biocenter, research institutes in Vienna and beyond (also internationally) or in R&D laboratories of for-profit industrial partners. DO NOT ALLOCATE POINTS FOR THESE INTERNSHIP! Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Students will learn here to address independently a given scientific question in theoretical and practical manners. This includes literature and database searches, presentation of the current state-of-knowledge in the field and proposal of a working hypothesis and its verification.
The thesis may include experimental work in the laboratory as well as bioinformatic studies and should enable successful students to handle smaller scientific projects independently.

Assessment and permitted materials

Compulsory attendance; the evaluation consists of different performances: active participation and results obtained, written report, theoretical knowledge including final exam (the percentage of the subgrades will be announced by the course leader); each of the subgrades must have a positive evaluation.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Compulsory attendance;
- Active participation and results obtained (40%),
- written report (40%),
- theoretical knowledge (20%).
