The course is exam-immune. Regular performance assessment: mid-term exams, homework, presentations, participation.

Minimum requirements
Active participation in the course (incl. intermediate tests) and regular attendance of the lecture (compulsory attendance) are required. The course is completed with an oral and written exam.Assessment standard
Intermediate tests - 25%, participation & homework - 50%, final exam - 25%. A minimum of 60% is required for a positive completion of the course.Grading of examination performance
100-90 P = 1; 89-80 P = 2, 79-70 P= 3, 69-60 P = 4, 59-0 P = 5
The examination is considered passed only if each part of the examination is passed. For a positive assessment, at least 60% of the total points must be achieved.

Examination topics
Speaking, writing, listening and reading comprehension exercises; conversation exercises; grammar exercises according to the lesson topics.
Reading list
The language course offered is mainly based on Bulgarian Grammar: Morphological-Syntactic Essentials. Ed. by Vassilka Radeva. Hamburg: Buske, 2003. Script and further teaching materials will be announced in the course. On the learning platform "Moodle", students are provided with further literature and additional exercises to deepen their knowledge.

The language course presupposes language competences corresponding to level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages [CEFR], taking into account the specific guidelines introduced at the Institute of Slavonic Studies at the University of Vienna for the philological-linguistic teaching of this course content. Focal points: Linguistics and fluency of the Bulgarian language for beginners, in particular: Grammar and text comprehension. Knowledge of (Latin-based) German grammatical terminology is assumed.Contents
The language course includes the following teaching units:
1. introduction to Bulgarian phonetics, phonology and orthography;
2. the verb in Bulgarian with its specific categories: Conjugation classes and types, aspect, genus, mode, tense forms;
3. characteristic features of Bulgarian nouns in comparison with German (noun, adjective, pronouns);
4. the numerals
5. the preposition;
6. vocabulary: active command of a basic vocabulary of approx. 800-1000 words. Transcription and transliteration.
7. syntax of the simple sentence.
8. language in context: language family, regional studies.Methods
Lecture, presentation, group work, interactive tasks.
