Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The woman writer is not an extraordinary phenomenon in Bulgarian literature, especially since the beginning of the 20th century. The 30s of this century can be considered the most productive period for women writers in Bulgarian literature: The well-known women writers (A. Karima, El. Bagryana, J. Jazova, L. Kasărova, Fani Popova-Mutafova, A. Kamenova and others) are characterized as active figures in the cultural life of Bulgaria at that time.
In the Conversatorium, the emancipation of women through writing is not discussed, but, like the two great authors - Elisaveta Bagryana and Blaga Dimitrova - the act and process of writing, writing as a kind of worldview, is treated and thematized in their own work. The two authors are selected here as the most striking examples: El. Bagryana is seen as an exponent of the vitalism of the 1920s, and Blaga Dimitrova, on the contrary, as a representative of reflection and analyticism, and in this sense - as the author of innovative genres in contemporary Bulgarian literature, where writing is a recurrent leitmotif.
But do not the two authors resemble each other in their aspirations, if we take a closer look at their work? What does it mean to think oneself through as a woman and as a writing subject? Is there really a break between these two identities? The texts of the two authors offer many suggestions for discussion in the field of autoreflection.
