Cultural Studies (111 [2] - Version 2015)

This curriculum can be chosen as a part of a BA-programme. Its aim is to teach students of the humanities, of the social sciences and of philosophy basic knowledge, theories, and methods of Cultural Studies. The subject-specific aims of this qualification are to communicate basic knowledge of the history, basic terminology, theories and paradigms of historical and current Cultural Studies. Furthermore they imply an insight in Cultural Studies' current subjects and questions. This aims at developing abilities to think in categories and contexts of cultural history and Cultural Studies. On a methodological level this includes basic knowledge of cultural analysis and interpretation of textual, audiovisual and material sources as well as of praxeologic approaches and of discourse analysis. On a more general level it aims at the ability to discuss the methodologies and theories of different disciplines of the humanities and the social sciences, transdisciplinary approaches and the ability of self-reflexive and critical-analytical thinking.
